Hello, I am Zahra and I specialize in working with children, adults and families that have experienced trauma, as well as in Mindfulness and maternal/ perinatal mental health.

I graduated with a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Toronto in 2012 and have worked in various interdisciplinary community settings and specialties including Child and Family Mental Health Centres, schools, Child Welfare and Addictions.

I have completed Post-graduate training and certifications in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Trauma-informed Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Narrative Behaviour Therapy and Brief Solution-focused Therapy.

In addition to my expertise in supporting children and families who have experienced Trauma and mental health challenges, I am also experienced in and knowledgeable about working with children and families who are experiencing the following:

Parenting Support

Considering the parent-child relationship is the very foundation upon which a child grows and develops, including the basis of their self-esteem and confidence, parenting is the most important job in the world. That it what makes it challenging, complex and exhausting, despite how rewarding it is. This is what excites me about working with parents and helping them to learn, understand and respond to their child’s behaviour with a new perspective and appreciation for their role and efforts.

Parenting Support sessions provide an opportunity to collaborate and learn helpful information and tools for your parenting journey. Through the process of being coached, you will increase your knowledge of evidence-informed parenting strategies that correspond with your child’s development, increase your self-awareness and confidence, and create a more balanced system of nurturing and structuring parenting skills. This in turn will empower you to be a more confident and effective parent for your child.

Family Therapy

At Kindful Living, we LOVE working with families. Family therapy sessions provide an opportunity to collaborate and learn helpful information and tools for your family. We provide a supportive environment to help you learn to have better communication, understanding and connection as a family. We help you to navigate challenges, resolve conflict and create opportunities to learn, grow and create more healthy family interactions and experiences.

We are open to and experienced in working with families who are looking to rebuild or create a deeper connection among family members, learn how to engage meaningfully, understand and help a child or youth who is living with mental illness, develop structure and feelings of safety, learn about boundaries and healthy communication and conflict management.
